Spotlight on our Anti-Parasite Formulas
We briefly covered parasites in our Gut Health blog post, which you can read here. However, parasites are such prevalent problem that we usually avoid talking about due to their unpleasant nature. So, here is a full blog post to really tackle them once and for all. Let’s learn what parasites are, how you get them, what the symptoms are and most importantly, how to get rid of them!
What Are Parasites?
You can think of parasites as nature’s tiny scavengers. They live in or on its host and gets it’s food from and often at the host’s expense. They are hungry just like every other creation on this planet and are helpful in that they clean up natures’ dying organisms, by-products and residues from the general activity of life and its processes. They vary a great deal in form, from worms to microscopic protozoan.
How Do I Get Parasites?
Archaeologists have found evidence to back up Hippocrates’ medical texts from 5,000 years ago that ancient Greeks battled with parasitic worms. Millenia later, modern human still battle with these infestations, roundworm and whipworm being two of the most common. Ancient treatment included “the crushed root of the wild herb seseli mixed with water and honey taken as a drink,” according to research made by the University of Cambridge.
Most people are well aware that meat, especially meat that is not well cooked is one of the most common ways to contract parasites. However, if you don’t eat meat – you should still familiarise yourself with other ways you could be in danger. Also, if you have been a meat eater in the past, there is a strong possibility that you may still have them.
Water in some underdeveloped countries can be contaminated with parasites, and as parasites are usually contracted through the oral or anal openings, you should be cautious to steer clear of untreated water. Parasitic eggs can live under human fingernails for up to two months, so if you come into contact with someone, or even use the door handle they touched, you run the risk of becoming infected too. Unwashed fruits and vegetables, and of course, animals (even domesticated companion animals) can also be hazardous. So, wash your fresh produce and don’t walk barefoot where animals have been defecating, don’t allow them to lick your face and of course, maintain good hand washing standards. If you do these things, you greatly reduce the likelihood of parasitic infection.
What Are The Symptoms and How Do I Eliminate Them?
If you are experiencing a number of the follow symptoms, there is a high chance that you are suffering from a parasitic infection:
