Supercharge Your Health With Moringa

At Our Botanicals we like to consider ourselves health researchers. There’s nothing more exciting to us than discovering and experiencing new herbal formulas, plant based supplements and superfoods. We love playing the “how good can I feel?” game. We also know there are times for deeper detoxification and there are times of building and nourishing. One of our recent favorite products that we have decided to bring to our clients and community is the superfood Moringa Powder by Sunfoods.  When you break down the nutritional profile of this plant it’s pretty amazing. It’s packed with vitamins and minerals – and it’s also protein rich, which is rare for a leafy green plant food. Here are some of the nourishing benefits you receive from Moringa…

A Nutritional Powerhouse

Moringa is an excellent source of Protein, Vitamin A, Potassium, Calcium, Iron and Vitamin C. Just as an example, when comparing Moringa to Kale we found that Moringa offers much more value nutritionally. Moringa has two times as much protein, four times as much calcium, six times as much iron, ninety-seven times as much Vitamin B2 and five times as much Vitamin B3 in comparison to Kale. WOW! The Moringa plant also contains a rare combination of disease-preventing phytonutrients, which contributes to its anti-inflammatory benefits and medicinal value. Studies reveal that these compounds are protective of the heart, naturally increase circulation, and possess antitumor, anti-epileptic, antiulcer, antispasmodic, and antidiabetic effects.

How Moringa is Healing the World

In 2008 the National Institute of Health called Moringa (moringa oleifera) the “plant of the year,” acknowledging that “perhaps like no other single species, this plant has the potential to help reverse multiple major environmental problems and provide for many unmet human needs.”  Moringa is an important food source in some parts of the world because it can be grown quickly, inexpensively and easily. Because the leaves retain much of its vitamins and minerals when dried, moringa is used in India and Africa in feeding programs to fight malnutrition.

Ayurvedic Uses of Moringa

Long before Moringa benefits were being studied in scientific settings, it was used extensively in traditional medicine practices like Ayurvedic medicine for over 4,000 years. The traditional uses for Moringa include; “tired blood” (anemia), arthritis and other joint pain, asthma, C#nc#r, constipation, insulin issues, diarrhea, epilepsy, stomach pain, stomach and intestinal ulcers, intestinal spasms, headache, heart problems, high blood pressure, kidney stones, fluid retention, thyroid disorders, and bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic infections.

Moringa is also used to reduce swelling, increase sex drive (as an aphrodisiac), prevent pregnancy, boost the immune system, and increase breast milk production. Commonly people use it as a nutritional supplement or tonic.

We are so excited to begin incorporating this powerful ‘heal all’ superfood into our diet. We chose to carry Sunfood’s Raw, Organic, and GMO Free Moringa Powder because we fully trust and have much experience with their standard of quality when it comes to superfoods. I don’t know about you, but I can always use more anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals into my daily green smoothie. This is a delicious (and easily digestible) way to bring the nutritional benefits of moringa into the body. And don’t worry;  Moringa is not an offensive tasting superfood! We were very pleased to find its taste similar to a nice earthy, yet mild green tea.
