Understanding Our Endocrine System

Unless you are super interested in your body’s anatomy, it may seem tedious and boring to learn about your physiology. However, even a basic understanding of your body’s systems is a fantastic first step at taking control of your health. When you begin to understand your body’s processes you are far better equipped to address any health issues you may be experiencing – whether it’s arthritis or acne. The endocrine system is a good place to start.

Your endocrine system is a series of glands that can be understood as the body’s government. These endocrine glands produce your hormones, steroids, and neurotransmitters that act like little emails; sending your cells messages on what to do. Nothing happens inside your body without your glands first giving the command. During this article we will examine the six gender neutral endocrine glands, and learn how detoxification can promote the regeneration and improved functioning of these glands.

Pineal Gland

Let’s start with the uppermost gland in the Endocrine System, which is the Pineal Gland. The French philosopher René Descartes described it as the “principal seat of the soul.” You’ve also probably heard it being referred to as the “third eye”. This little gland is about the size of a grain of rice, and is located in the middle of the brain, at the same level as the eyes. Its primary hormone is melatonin, which influences your daily mood and rhythms, and helps to regulate your sleep and wake cycles.

In detoxifying this gland we seek to decalcify it. Calcification of the Pineal Gland occurs when the body is in acidosis, meaning that the Lymphatic System is not moving toxins out of your body. Fluoride accumulates in this gland more than any other, as does phosphorus. The protocol for decalcification includes eliminating junk food and drastically reducing your exposure to fluoride.

Eating a diet high in raw fruits and vegetables is also important; chlorella, iodine (kelp), beets and apple cider vinegar are powerful agents in helping the body to reverse calcification. In addition to lifestyle change, these Pineal Drops will stimulate restoration to Pineal tissue.

Pituitary Gland

If the Endocrine System is the government, the Pituitary Gland is the President; it controls all of the other endocrine glands.
The Pituitary Gland hangs from the base of the brain by a stalk and is enclosed by bone. It is about the size of a pea. This gland works closely with the hypothalamus to regulate all processes around primitive reactions. For example; stress, body temperature, rage, thirst and hunger. Once triggered by the hypothalamus, the anterior pituitary releases the required hormones into the bloodstream. It also controls thyroid function.

As you can see, the Pituitary Gland is a very important, albeit very small part of our body. When you detox, the Pituitary Gland will be hard at work releasing healing growth hormones, so we want to ensure that we support it during this process. Our Pituitary formula stimulates other endocrine glands to produce or release specific hormones, steroids and neurotransmitters. This formula, combined with a healthy diet is a great way to support your Pituitary Gland.

Thyroid and Thymus Glands

As many people come to detox with a desire to lose excess weight, boost their energy and improve the appearance of their hair and nails, the Thyroid Gland is an essential place to start. The Thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland located in the neck just below the Adam’s apple and above the collarbone, it regulates the body’s use of energy and governs metabolism. A sluggish Thyroid can express itself symptomatically as fatigue, brain fog, depression, difficulty in losing weight, brittle nails and more.

The Thyroid system plays a critical role in your metabolism. Along with insulin and cortisol, your thyroid hormone is one of the three hormones that control your metabolism and weight. So, if you have your healthy, detox-supporting lifestyle in place but are still not experiencing weight loss. It’s time to focus on the Thyroid, our Thyroid formula also targets the Thymus, so let’s learn a little about that gland.

The Thymus Gland is essentially the brain of your immune system. It lies just beneath the breastbone; is large in infants, and shrinks after puberty as it is no longer being naturally stimulated by the body.
Its function is to program white blood cells, the body’s immune army, in their various tasks and then send them into the blood to recognize and destroy pathogens.
The thymus develops our resistance to bacteria, C#nc#r, viruses, toxins and allergens, and also stimulates the production of white blood cells in bone marrow. It also controls the lymphatic system of glands and ducts.
The Thymus gland is also highly responsive to our emotions and shuts down when we are feeling stressed. As a result, the white blood cells become fewer in number and less aggressive. This is a very clear example of why reducing stress in your life is so important for your overall health.

Adrenal Glands

We have two Adrenal Glands, which are around the size of walnuts and sit right on top of the Kidneys. Your Adrenal Glands are unique amongst the other Glands as they not only produce numerous essential hormones and steroids that control cellular function such as testosterone, oestrogen, progesterone etc, but they also produce all of the electricity for the autonomic nervous system.
It can be said that if you want to heal your Endocrine System, you should being with your Adrenal Glands. They can be understood as the ‘batteries’ of the body, because the neurotransmitters they produce act as the ‘electricity’ that powers every subconscious action in the body. This includes your digestion, breathing, lymphatic movements, and the general function of all your glands and organs. Our Adrenal Gland formula is specifically formulated to regenerate the health and function of the adrenal glands through the combination of tissue specific Botanical Herbs.
We also have another blog post that covers the Adrenals in more detail. You can read it here.

Pancreas

Located in your small intestine, the Pancreas is a leaf-shaped organ that plays a very important role in digestive health. It is both an exocrine and an endocrine gland. The Pancreas produces hormones like insulin that help to keep your blood sugar levels stable. This gland also produces the digestive enzymes that break down the foods you eat so they can be absorbed into your body more efficiently.

The Pancreas is of course greatly affected by your diet, and so it is imperative to eliminate toxic foods that become acidic in the body like meat and dairy. Plant foods that have an especially soothing effect include Licorice, Ginger and Green tea. Hot showers, plenty of water and yoga also help.

Our Pancreas formula is also a great option for specifically targeting this gland as it was created as an anti-inflammatory, a cleanser, and rejuvenator of the Pancreas.

Where Should I Start?

After all of that information, you may be feeling a little overwhelmed. Sometimes it can seem that detoxification is a long, complicated and difficult process. Actually the opposite is true. Our bodies are detox machines, and our entire Lymphatic System does just that! Your body has already has everything you need to achieve optimal health and wellbeing. Your job is simply to provide it with the environment it needs to function as it is designed to.
